Hi
A shade sail project with a difference. This custom designed shade cloth was recently manufactured and installed in Lower Hutt City's orchid house. Our client wanted a shade protection solution that also complemented the water feature already installed at the site. The sail was manufactured from a purpose woven Z16 shade mesh, in "Desert Sand" colour. It will provide 97% UV block out and 90% shade. After creating the design of the sail, a substantial rigging system was also designed and fitted to ensure a well tensioned and safe installation of the sail.
Inflatable Dice
These airtight inflatable dice will be seen around a number of Netball matches in New Zealand this winter They will be part of the half time entertainment where a lucky spectator will have a chance to roll to win. The dice were were manufactured from a PVC material and welded together. They are inflatated within minutes with an electric blower. The dots and the clients logo seen on the dice were cut from PVC on our electronic plotter cutter. Each dice measures 18m x 1.8m in dimension.
European Art Inflatables
Canvasland has been involved with a number of artworks created by Massey University's David Cross. One of the more recent projects worked on was this inflatable piece which has been touring Europe.
David Cross explains:
These works were designed to create an interactive experience for people who encounter the work in a public setting. Originally performed in Zagreb, the work sought to develop a dialogue with strangers that was not based on speaking but on the shared activity of keeping the structure inflated and through a peep hole inside the structure. The artist was interested in the universal languages of touch, sound and to some extent sport and recreation. Some audience members lasted a few seconds, others were in there for 15-20 minutes.
It is an artwork around the possibilities of exchange and individual experience in a setting often hostile to dialogue and inter-personal engagement.
Alfresco Dining Area
A versatile weather proof structure was the pre requisite given from our Kapiti Coast client. They were looking for a waterproof structure to enclose a pool side deck, and yet still have the flexibility to open it up during the summer months. Our Awning and Shade division designed an alumnium framed structure which was then covered with tensioned PVC panels. The panels provided the bulk of the roof, walls and doors out to the pool. Also included in the project was a spring roller Ziptrack curtain system which doubled as a wall and door that opened out onto the lawn.
Our client reports that the new enclosed area has been successfully used several times already this autumn for some great parties.
