Hi
OFPANZ Conference and Awards 2008
This years annual industry conference and awards took place in Auckland recently. A small team from Canvasland attended the event to explore new opportunities and build the memory banks full of new advances that are taking place in the industry. One of the main features at the conference is the gala evening where innovation, quality and achievement is recognised through the OFPANZ Awards ceremony. Canvasland entered a number a categories and managed to pick up a few wins along the way.
Category 5. Domestic Shade Structures
Canvasland Wellington entered this domestic shade sail project which took honors in this category. Unique in that the sails were fitted on an internal structure as opposed to the usual outdoor application sails are used for. The client was looking for a shade solution for their conservatory which on hot days was unable to be used because of extreme heat and light. The sails were custom made to fit the unusual shape of the conservatory and installed with stainless steel fittings. The fabric used, while although light in colour, was perfect to filter the UV rays but still allow good natural light into the area without the glare.

Category 3. Marine Applications
This particular project was a bit more complicated as far as logistics were concerned. A number of tricky covers were required for a yacht which was moored in the Mana Marina north of Wellington. The project consisted of a hatch, windscreen, main boom and storage covers. The covers have been installed to protect the wooden construction of the yachts cabin from UV light and prevent leaks through the hatches. They were designed to fit the yacht tightly and needed to be strong and easy to put on, and yet robust enough to withstand the often adverse weather conditions that hit the marina. This project was yet another that was managed and manufactured by our Wellington crew.

Category 10 - Inflatables
Featured before in one of our previous newsletters, this 20mtr long obstacle course was manufactured for Ogilvy Groups clients - Sanitarium and the NZRFU. The inflatable made it's first outing last summer, touring with the Weetbix Tryathalons around the country. The response was so well received by the public that a second unit has since been manufactured. Both courses are being used weekly around the country promoting the All Blacks and the game of rugby to up and coming stars. As with many of the inflatable projects that come through our door, this was a custom design and build.
